James W. Edlund was born in 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan. He received his MD degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1973. Dr. Edlund completed his general surgery residency at Blodgett Hospital, Grand Rapids Michigan in 1978. In 1979 Dr. Edlund completed his fellowship for Colon Rectal Surgery at the Ferguson Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan.Dr. Edlund has been practicing colon rectal surgery in Fort Wayne, Indiana since 1979.

Dr. Edlund is certified by the American Board of Colon Rectal Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.

He holds membership with the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, American Medical Association, American College of Physician Executives, Fort Wayne Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Association, and American Informatics Association.
